Caring for someone in Wijchen? Come to the Day of the Carer on 10 November

Do you look after your partner, a parent, a child or a neighbour? Then you are a mantelzorger — an informal carer — even if you never use that word yourself. In November the municipality of Wijchen puts informal carers in the spotlight: from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 November it is the Week van de Mantelzorg, with the theme 'Alledaags Geluk' (everyday happiness). The municipality announced this on 29 September.

The highlight is the Dag van de Mantelzorg (Day of the Carer) on Tuesday 10 November at De Leurse Hof, Leurseweg 4 in Leur. You can choose an afternoon programme from 11.30 to 14.00 or an evening programme from 17.45 to 20.30. The programme is about relaxing, meeting others and good food. Taking part is free and you may bring someone along, for example the person you care for or someone who supports you.

To sign up, send an email to mantelzorg@wijchen.nl. Say whether you prefer the afternoon or the evening and whether you are bringing a guest. The municipality does not give a closing date, but it is better not to wait too long. The full programme for the whole week will appear on the municipality's Mantelzorg page.

Good to know: besides the week there is also the mantelzorgwaardering 2026, a token of appreciation of € 50. It is not the carer who applies, but the person who receives the care and lives independently in Wijchen. The condition is that the carer provides care in 2026 for at least three months in a row and on average at least eight hours a week. You can apply until 31 December, online via mijnzorg.drutenwijchen.nl or with a form at the Huis van de gemeente (the town hall). One token per year can be applied for; the amount is lower than last year.
